Page Real Estate, Astoria

About Astoria

Astoria started in the colonial 1650s, when William Hallett Sr. received a land grant for what would become known as Astoria and Hallet's Cove. It didn't become a true village until Stephen Halsey founded it in 1839, naming Astoria after John Jacob Astor.

Of course, in recent decades, as the N, W, R, V and G subways reached into this area of Queens, it became a 20-minute commute to midtown Manhattan and easy access to the rest of the island. This has created one of the most multi-cultural neighborhoods within the NYC area. It has Little Egypt, Mexican-American neighborhoods, the older Greek and Italian families, and a healthy sprinkling of East Indians, Chinese, Brazilian, African-American and others. The result of this is a friendly, small-business oriented neighborhood that has great restaurants, bakeries, shops, diversity and atmosphere.
